Kushalnagar, may 19: The day 17 May 1995, is a dark day and a tragic memory in the history of Tibet and to the human society. For, the six-year-old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and his parents & family were abducted by the Chinese government on 17 May 1995, just three days after he was officially recognized the 11th Panchen Lama by His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama. Panchen Lama is the second highest spiritual figure in Tibetan Buddhism.
For 31 long years, his whereabouts and condition are not known to anyone, except the communist Chinese government is holding him in captivity. This forced disappearance and captivity of a little six-year-old boy is indeed one of the world’s longest-serving political prisoners.
We issue a strong, unwavering demand to the Chinese government: to provide verifiable proof of his wellbeing and for his immediate release, including parents & family. We call upon the United Nations and the international community to hold Beijing accountable for this grievous violation of human rights, and demand for his immediate release.
